- Write two words on the board GAS – PETROL. Ask students if they mean the same or different, and if they are different, which word belongs to American and which is British English.

Word Game

- Divide the students into small teams. On the paper ask them to write two columns, one column with UK and the other US.
- Tell them they have three minutes to write a list of as many word pairs in UK and US English as they can.
- 4. When finished ask groups to swap and check their answers. Teacher monitors as necessary.

|
- Give out copies of Worksheet 1 to each student/pairs and ask them to match the words to the definitions.
- When finished ask the students to check their answers with their partner/another group.

- One student says the UK word then throws a soft object (paper ball) to another student, they say the US version.
